Your story is what attracts people to you. It’s the thing that makes your story relatable. People want to do business with people they trust, like, and trust…people who are similar to them and can relate to. People will be able to relate and know you better by sharing their stories. This increases the trust factor in them and makes them want do business with you.
You have to ask yourself: How much of your own story should I tell? What proportion of you should you share?
It is acceptable to tell people who you really are, your life and your business. It is crucial to be able share what you treasure, your personal life and your experiences in order to build relationships. You shouldn’t reveal the intimate things of your heart. You should keep those things private, and you will know the truth.
Consider a mentor, someone you admire and look up too. Now think about what you know about them. What do you know about the person? Their business is not their life. It’s their life, their families, their hobbies, and their likes, dislikes, as well as their personal lives. What do you know about their personality? Are they a wine-lover, do you drink coffee every day? Are they married? Do they have pets?
How do you get to know these things? They shared their stories with you and you are now familiar with them. These are the things you can share your clients. These are the things you value and that have shaped your life. These are personal, but they’re not private.
You may find yourself telling your story at many events to the same people day after day. You must remember that you are constantly introducing new people to your business and that your story is still new to them.
Think about your story, what you are sharing on a regular basis and what you could start sharing. Next, think of three to four additional things you can share next time that you tell your story. Tell your story to clients and continue telling it to attract the right clients.
